Absolutely not. Tolkien created a whole world with its history from beginning to end. He laid the groundwork for the majority of fictions that we have seen since his days. A literary genius, linguistic expert, and THE best fictional writer of the century. Obviously I am biased, but it's just amazing what he was able to do in his creation of Middle Earth. So much detail. He created three new languages by taking some Welsh, Finnish, and and Old English. They are their own languages.... Let that sink in... Genius.

Lucky you, I've at least getting opening night at bridgeport HFR IMAX 3d should be fun. I read somewhere that in many theatres will be showing an extended scene of the new star trek.

Although I must say that the only way to enjoy this as a fan of Tolkien's writing is to separate your train of thought from that of the books. If I went to see the movie expecting it to be just like the book I would be sorely disappointed.
Only gripe would be that 3 movies seems unnecessary. Still it is fantastic outside of the unnecessary length.

The best parts in the movie by far were when they used Tolkien's exact quotes from the book. All the other dialog seemed out of place.

This movie was depressingly boring. I have little interest in Tolkien, Martin, etc. Absolutely zero interest in the fantasy world crap. The cinematography was nice though. Too bad they spent 3/4 of the movie walking around doing nothing.
Play- I read half of the first book of Martin's series, just not my cup of tea.

No it didn't. It wasn't the best thing that Jackson put out, but it was by no means sucked.
