I watched the first half against Jazz yesterday.... Batum looked impressive. I know he will never be able to create his own shot off the dribble, but I still love the fact that he was able to score in so many different ways yesterday. Playing off the ball (coming off screens for a J and backdoors), one-dribble pull-ups, fast-break, step-back 3-pointer, and maybe someday he will learn how to score out of the post.

Batum did exactly what he has done all career...be inconsistent, that was his great game, but he has had quite a few stinkers in the preseason so far.

Well, if he is able to score in multiple ways effectively then I think that will lead to more consistency.
Teams in the past could limit Batum by running him off the 3pt line/forcing him to put the ball on the floor. If he as able to run pick and rolls like he did against Utah, and knock down pull-up/step-back jumpers off the dribble it will be harder for teams to cover him on a consistent basis. If his outside game isn't on he now has the option to score in different ways on offense. At least that is what I'm hoping for.

In other news, the Trail Blazers are building around a backup caliber combo guard and a good IR caliber C. Fun times.

I could see it making sense in the years where guys like Antonio Davis, Ilgauskas, Magloire and Brad Miller were getting all-star nods. But currently the position is a lot deeper than it's been. Probably the deepest it's been since the 90s. I now patiently await a Cavs fan to yell at me about Big Z.

shooting though is something that isnt really affected as much by preseason stats, he can shoot the three, knock down FT's and jumpers, and scores efficiently
